IGCSE / GCSE

The (International) General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE / GCSE) is an academic qualification in the UK taken in a wide range of subjects and has been internationally recognised as a qualification that prepares students for the last two years of highschool study. In school, the program usually takes two years, starting in Year 10 and finishing with the examinations at the end of Year 11. For those who aim to pursue their education in top universities, it is advisable that they take between 10-13 subjects to create a distinctive academic profile.
IGCSE is designed to also suit homeschooled students. For more information, please contact Haus Academy. We are always happy to help.

A Level

A Level (Advanced Level) is a subject-based high school qualification in the UK normally studied during Year 12-13. IB & Middle Year Program (Pre-IB/MYP)

The International Baccalaureate (IB) offers educational programs for the last two years of High School, equivalent to the A Level, while the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is for students aged 11-16 prior to their IB education. Originating in Switzerland, the IB curriculum has been internationally recognised and requires more subjects than those in A Level.
   ● Most MYP is designed and run by individual schools to prepare students for their IB study. This includes at least 8 subjects from different subject groups, two of which are two languages.
   ● In IB, students are required to study a total of six subjects: three in a higher level, and the other three in a lower level. And from these total, two must be language/language and literature studies, while mathematics, one natural sciences subject, and one social sciences subject are compulsory. Other requirements include: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativities, Activities, and Service (CAS), and the submission of an Extended Essay (EE).

SAT I / SAT Subject (SAT II) / AP

Although the US education allows each school to freely plan their curriculum for students, once these students proceed to the high school years, they have to take standardised tests as part of the university application requirements.
      ● SAT consists of the Mathematic section and the English section (critical reading and writing) which assess students’ numeracy, literacy, and writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills. If students want to apply for top US universities, it is recommended that they not take the SAT more than three times.
      ● SAT Subjects (SAT II) are optional, but beneficial tests. Students can select some subjects closely related to the field of study they apply for in the university level. To maximise the scores, academic planning and timeline, when to take which subjects, for instance, are very important.
      ● AP (Advanced Placement) is a college-level assessment available for high-school students who want to attain some university course credits in advance and build impressive academic profile.
